Azealia Banks quitting rap and considering name change
Azealia Banks is giving up rap and considering a name change in order to put her controversial past behind her.
The 25-year-old's bad girl antics have landed her in legal trouble and seen her engaged in social media feuds with a number of celebrities including Zayn Malik and filmmaker Judd Apatow.
Her online spat with Zayn earlier this year (16) even caused her to
be banned by bosses at Twitter after making homophobic and racist
remarks about the former One Direction star.
However, the 212 musician is keen to quit rap and mend her ways, as
she reveals in a post on her Facebook page.
"I'm honestly tired of rapping, the rap scene and the whole
rap-girl persona," she writes. "Considering dropping my last name
and just going by "Azealia" and not rap for a while. I'm really
tired of being that girl. It's not me."
Azealia, who before taking up rap was a talented singer, dancer and
actress who even appeared in off-Broadway productions, wants to
return to her first love.
"i (sic) only started rapping because my acting career wasn't
moving as quickly as i (sic) wanted it to," She explains. "Rap has
been SUCH diversion for me, and it's probably the reason i feel so
lost and off my path.
"I've done great things with Rap, but only because it pays my
bills. I would much rather sing and act and never rap again. I
don't want to be a rapper anymore."
Her vow to give up rap and return to acting and singing is the
latest attempt by Azealia to shed her negative image. In the wake
of coming under fire after her comments towards Zayn, which
included calling him a, "curry scented b***h" in reference to his
Pakistani heritage, she did issue an apology on Instagram.
"Allowing my anger to get the best of me, I've managed to insult
millions of people without reason," she wrote. "And for that I give
my deepest apologies."
