Avicii postpones Independence Day show

Swedish dance star Avicii has called off an upcoming Independence Day (04Jul14) gig.

The DJ was due to kick off the Fourth of July (14) holiday weekend (04-06Jul14) by performing at the Governors Beach Club on Governor's Island in New York as part of a promotion with fashion brand Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren and department store Macy's.

Fans were offered free tickets when they spent $75 on Denim & Supply products at a Macy's store, but the gig has now been called off.

A statement posted on the clothing brand's website offers an apology to both the DJ and his fans.

It reads, "We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers, Avicii, and Avicii's fans... Due to limited and restricted access on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on the evening of July 4th, the Avicii concert, scheduled to take place on Governor's Island, will be postponed to a new date. Please check back for details on a new show date and venue as we work to ensure a more enjoyable experience for all concert-goers."

Avicii hit headlines earlier this week (beg23Jun14) when dozens of concert-goers were hospitalised following his show in Boston, Massachusetts. Around 50 fans were treated by paramedics on site at the TD Garden venue, while another 36 were taken to nearby hospitals. Many of the cases were reportedly caused by dehydration, while a police spokesman suggested alcohol and drugs could have played a part.
