Ashton Kutcher renovates childhood home as early Mother's Day present
Actor Ashton Kutcher is planning to give his mum a Mother's Day to remember by renovating his childhood home in Iowa in honour of the holiday this weekend (10May15).
The Butterfly Effect star teamed up with interior designers at online design site Houzz, of which he is an investor, to document the remodelling process in a video series, more than two decades after he helped his stepfather Mark build the house "from scratch".
In the footage, he explains, "It's my way of saying thank you to my
mum. My mum has been the greatest influence in my life - my parents
gave me everything. They went to great sacrifices to give me the
life that I have and anything I can do to say thank you is the
right thing."
The new dad wanted the renovations to reflect "how my parents live
now" and "how they're going to be living with grandkids running
around".
It took Kutcher and company 27 days to complete the project before
he revealed the big surprise to his shocked mother.
He says, "Being able to do this for my mum, it's like a lifelong
dream. You know you grow up and you have a good parent, and I don't
know that there's anything I could ever do that really says thank
you, but trying sure feels good."
The remodelling includes a bedroom with bunk beds for her
grandchildren, including Kutcher and fiancee Mila Kunis' baby
daughter Wyatt.
