Competition show American Idol is returning to TV.

Idol ended its 15-season run on Fox in 2016, but it will hit TV screens on ABC for the 2017/2018 season.

"American Idol is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon," President of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey says. "ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams."

American Idol was created by English TV producer Simon Fuller in 2002 with Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul as judges. The show has helped to launch the careers of singers like Kelly Clarkson, who was the season one winner, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, and Fantasia Barrino.

During its final season, Harry Connick Jr., Keith Urban, and Jennifer Lopez served as judges, and Trent Harmon was crowned the winner.

It is unclear who will return to host and judge the new season.
