America Ferrera to host hard-hitting U.S. immigration documentary

America Ferrera is helping to give undocumented Latinos in Texas a voice as part of a stirring new TV docu-series.

The outspoken actress is fighting to keep Donald Trump out of the White House and she thinks Shonda Rhimes' hard-hitting new series, America Divided, will help voters see just how dangerous electing someone who is so anti-immigration could be.

"America Divided is an important and beautiful series that tackles big issues," she tells WENN. "I am the conduit for the audience and ask the questions that anyone would ask when they're first being introduced to another person's story.

"My segment in particular deals with undocumented people in the south of Texas, along the border; what life is like there and what it's like to not have access to healthcare or the justice system. Or any kind of retribution for not getting paid your wages or sexual harassment.

"We even covered the story of mothers who were being denied birth certificates for their American-born children... It tackles some pretty weighty issues in a year where all those issues matter deeply and are being spoken about."

A fervent Hillary Clinton supporter, Ferrera is preparing to get busy ahead of the presidential election in November (16) to keep Donald Trump out of the White House.

"I can't imagine that we all don't have friends and family who we love who have a lot to lose and a lot to gain based on the outcome of this election," she adds. "Just as a human being that's alive and in this country and in this world, I think it's important for all of us to use our voices especially in this moment that feels historic. It feels as if we're living a very, very pivotal moment in our country's history and so it's time for all of us to engage and not relinquish our voices."
