Amber Riley 'all cried out' following Olivier Awards win

Amber Riley's eyes were "almost swollen shut" from crying so much after her win at the 2017 Olivier Awards on Sunday (09Apr17).


The former Glee actress picked up the Best Actress in a Musical prize at London's Royal Albert Hall for her portrayal of Effie White in the West End production of Dreamgirls, and she took to Instagram in the early hours of Monday morning (10Apr17) to post a make-up free selfie with her award and share how much it meant to her.

"I am all cried out. My eyes are almost swollen shut from all the happy tears I cried today lol (laughing out loud)," she wrote. "Thank you so much for all the congrats! Honestly this has been a very unexpected night.

"I am so filled with gratitude I could burst. Thanks for coming to see Dreamgirls and if you haven't seen it yet, everyone in this show is phenomenal, please come! We would love to see you there! Blessings."

She also took the opportunity to thank people she missed during her acceptance speech because she was so nervous and shared a video showing her screaming with joy as she went backstage following her win.

Amber was also congratulated online by her former Glee co-stars including Chris Colfer, who wrote, "Congrats @MsAmberPRiley on your #OlivierAward! We couldn't love you more!" and Jenna Ushkowitz, who posted, "I'm weeping... AMBER. F*ing (sic) RILEY. YES YES YES YES," followed by a series of crying face and love heart emojis.

Glee stars Ashley Fink, Harry Shum, Jr. and Kevin McHale also tweeted their support.

Amber, who performed at the glitzy ceremony, was also congratulated by Jennifer Holliday, who originated the role of Effie on Broadway in 1981. She tweeted, "Congrats @MsAmberPRiley on UR WIN! @OlivierAwards Over 35yrs since Dreamgirls, I watched you perform tonite & You gave me chills- SO PROUD! (sic)"
