Amanda Seyfried officially signs on to Mamma Mia! sequel

Actress Amanda Seyfried is officially set to reprise her singing role in the Mamma Mia! sequel.


The 31-year-old will headline the ABBA-inspired movie musical Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! alongside several member's of the 2008 film's original cast, including Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel director Ol Parker is slated to write and direct the project, according to Deadline, and ABBA stars Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus will return as executive producers.

Executives at Universal pictures are quickly moving the film into development and aiming for a release date of 20 July, 2018.

Mamma Mia! is the highest grossing movie musical of all time after earning $600 million at the global box office.

In the original film, Seyfried played carefree Sophie, who hatches a plot to discover the identity of her biological father on the eve of her Greek island wedding.
