Adele ends 2015 and rings in 2016 on top of pop charts

Adele has scored a ninth week at the top of the singles chart, making sure her Hello hit will be the last number one of 2015 and the first of 2016.

The comeback hit debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in November (15) and hasn't been toppled, while Justin Bieber's Sorry remains at two for an eighth successive week.

The Canadian star's Love Yourself also rises a spot to complete the new top three, and his What Do You Mean? stays put at five, giving Bieber another three-tune top five week. Only 50 Cent and the Beatles have equalled that feat.

Fellow Canadian Drake rounds out the top five at four with Hotline Bling, making the first countdown of 2016 a non-American one.

Bieber's ex Selena Gomez ends the drought at six with Same Old Love, while Alessia Cara's Here, Shawn Mendes' Stitches and The Hills by The Weeknd all feature in the top 10.

Meanwhile, Adele's record-breaking run atop the U.S. album countdown continues as 25 enjoys another one million-plus sales week.
