Lindsay Lohan's father has given up trying to force his daughter into rehab by releasing taped frantic phone calls with her to the media, after his ex-wife Dina called his actions "unforgivable".

Michael Lohan maintains he went public with the phone tapes after repeated attempts to convince his daughter she needed counselling for an alleged addiction to prescription drugs, but his media campaign drew harsh criticism from family members, Lohan's lawyer and the actress herself.

And now Michael Lohan has promised there will be no more tapes released.

Lindsay Lohan is in talks to play a character loosely based on herself.

Producers John Edmonds Kozma and Richard O'Sullivan are working on a new romantic comedy called One Night With You and they hope to land Lohan as the lead.

Reports suggest the character is a former child star who gets wrapped up in all sorts of scandal, goes to rehab and revamps her career by appearing on a reality dating show.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon director Chris Weitz will retire from Hollywood after just one more movie.

Weitz, who also made About A Boy and The Golden Compass, admits he has been put off filmmaking by the bureaucracy of big movie studios and he'd rather spend his time relaxing and learning new skills.

He tells MovieMaker magazine, "Every time I make a movie I'm pretty much convinced it's the last time I'm going to be able to do it and that really it's a rather silly occupation to undertake. But I think I have maybe one more film in me."
