50 Cent's TV show filming under fire from New Yorkers

Rapper 50 Cent's new TV project has come under fire from New Yorkers for filming in a residential neighbourhood on the holidays.

The hip-hop star's TV drama Power is being filmed in Brooklyn Heights, but the crew has been criticised for shooting around synagogues on the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur last month (Oct14) and for blocking streets on Halloween on Friday (31Oct14).

Judy Stanton of the Brooklyn Heights Association tells the New York Post, "They should know better. A lot of crews film around here, but most try to work with and respect the community. They should know that Yom Kippur and Halloween might not be the best times."

Marybeth Ihle of the New York City Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment tells the publication the crew attempted to minimise disruption: "Our office works closely with the community and the production to minimise the impact of productions filming on religious holidays and special occasions."
