Nikki Reed was born on May 17, 1988, in West Los Angeles, California. After her parents' divorce, Reed was raised by her mother. She attended Palms Middle School where she became extremely rebellious and got mixed in with the wrong crowd, experimenting with drugs and alcohol. By the age of only 14 she emancipated from her mother and began living on her own.
Reed and family friend/director Catherine Hardwicke finished the script for the film Thirteen in only six days. Producers came to Reed and offered her a role in the film, because they had so much trouble casting it as the film dealt with several controversial issues for a teen. The film was released in 2003 giving Reed recognition for both acting and screenwriting. After the success of her film, Reed returned to high school in Los Angeles, but dropped out after a year to concentrate on her career. Reed continued her role as a sexually promiscuous teenager in films such as "Lords of Dogtown." She also played the role of Sadie, Ryan Atwood's love interest, on the popular TV show "The O.C". She then took a role in the movie Mini's First Time. Reed plays a seductive teenager who involves her stepfather in a plot to murder her mother. She then wrote another script which is to be set in New Zealand and take place between the 1960s and 1980s. Reed claims she struggles with roles because she is often typecast as the 'sexy, bad girl,' and producers often tell her she is too sexy for particular parts.
On February 12, 2008, Reed received the role of Rosalie Hale, a vampire, in the movie Twilight which, obviously, was a smash hit. This talented actress and screenwriter has so much more to accomplish and will be a joy to watch.
