KID ROCK BIO
Born: January 17, 1971 Romeo, Michigan
Born Robert James Ritchie, Kid Rock is a successful musician known for his eclectic sound that fuses rap, rock, blues, and country. At age eleven, Kid Rock began honing his craft by joining a breakdance crew, practicing on turntables and performing at basement parties. By the time he was seventeen, he signed a deal with Jive records and released his debut album Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast. After a couple of failed record deals, Kid Rock started his own independent label, Top Dog Records, and worked as a janitor at White Room Studios to get recording time for his fourth album, Early Morning Stoned Pimp. Soon after, he caught the attention of Atlantic Records and through them released his first mainstream album Devil Without a Cause, which became a huge success with singles such as “Cowboy” and “Bawitdaba."
