Jordan Brianna Sparks is an American Pop and R&B singer, songwriter, and actress. Her rise to fame began after she became the winner of the sixth season “American Idol”.
Born in Phoenix, AZ to Jodi Weidmann Sparks and former New York Giants defensive back Phillippi Sparks, Jordin began singing at a very young age and as soon as she was eligible she auditioned for "American Idol...twice in one season. After being passed over by the judges at the Phoenix auditions she decided to try again and hoped a plane to the Seattle auditions just a few weeks later.
She must have taken the judges notes because not only did they give her a ticket to Hollywood but she sang her way all the way to that season's finale.
She was only 17 years old when she was crowned the "American Idol," making her the youngest contestant to ever win the popular show.
Jordin has shown tremendous amounts of success as her first self-titled album reached platinum status and sold 2 millions copies worldwide. She also won an American Music Award in 2008 and was nominated for a Grammy in 2009 for her duet, "No Air," with Chris Brown.
Her sophomore album, Battlefield, debuted at #7 on the Billboard charts and in 2010 it was announced that she would be starring in a 12-week limited engagement as Nina Rosario in the Broadway musical "In the Heights."
With a clothing line and her active charity circuit duties it is a wonder how this vibrant singer has time to do it all, but one thing is certain, she plans on continuing to entertain us for years to come.
She was the first non-southerner and first mixed race person to win “American Idol”.
She was home schooled after freshmen year of high school.
Her nickname is Jo Jo.
