He made a huge risk when attending University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he majored in English but dropped out to pursue a career in acting. However, he re-attended UCLA and graduating in 2008. James first gained attention on the short-lived but well-reviewed television show "Freaks and Geeks." His first major film was the romantic comedy Whatever It Takes. James went on to star in such films as Flyboys, Annapolis, Tristan & Isolde, Pineapple Express, and Milk.
