Muskogee, Oklahoma

Getting her big break by being crowned the winner of season 4 "American Idol," Carrie did not always come from a background of glitz and glamour. Growing up as a small town girl from Muskogee, Oklahoma, she always loved singing country while performing at local venues. She graduated high school as the salutatorian, and later attended Northeastern State University in Oklahoma where she received her bachelor's degree in mass communication with an emphasis in journalism.

After winning "American Idol" in 2005, she hit the ground running. Her first album, Some Hearts was released in 2005, and her second album Carnival Ride was released in 2007. Throughout her journey, Carrie has become a multi-platinum recording artist, and has won numerous Grammy's, making her one of the more successful "American Idol" winners! Her third studio album, Play On, is another fan favorite with the release of the hit single "Cowboy Casanova."

Carrie has been a vegetarian since the age of 13.

Amazingly, she has no formal training in voice or singing.

May 25 was declared Carrie Underwood Day in Oklahoma.
